(more…)

Not an astronaut but he is certainly reaching for the moon, our own Trevor Noah is making America laugh. He mentions that there is no notable difference between American and South African audiences.
The one difference is that unlike South Africans Americans do not know much about the world.
Oops! suppose he does not tell them joke but explains jokes to them.
The latest starlight appearance was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
An American accused him of being racists because he referred to black Americans.
In answer to this he said that some of his best parents are black.
It is amazing how freedom of speech has changed our lives. South Africans from all segments of the spectrum have reacted differently to the newfound liberty. It is similar to racehorse when confined too long to a stable without exercise. It would be dangerous to mount such an animal before it has rid itself of the frustration.
Freedom of speech is only but one of these areas where the lifting of restriction has been negatively reacted to. Under white domination in bothSouth Africa and Zimbabwe (oldRhodesia), no one would have dared criticize PW Botha (SA) and Ian Smith (Rhodesia) without consequences and sometimes supreme penalty would be the reward.
Yet today we can have our say inSouth Africabecause we have the most modern democratic constitution in the world to protect our rights.
The intensity and disrespectful nature of the criticism directed at our leaders nowadays is not so much to address an issue but rather to see who can be the funniest or most insulting. Everyone suddenly wants to be satirists similar to Shapiro.
We should make use of our democratic right to reprove or approve but keep the focus on changing the situation to what we think is the better and not to have humour or offense as the purpose of the communication. As the adage goes keep the eye on the ball or play the ball and not the player.
Before Robert Mugabe went over to drastic action, some of which was inhumane and tragic he accommodated white ministers in key cabinet positions. The security agent who dealt with Mugabe during his incarceration was requested to fill the top security job in the country when Mugabe come to power but the agent refused the appointment.
Yet Ian Smith was kept in government opposition benches by the few loyal to him instead of moving on like FW de Klerk did after serving in the Government of national unity for a short period.
Often we hear tedious predictions in shopping malls and banks ofSouth Africabecoming a secondZimbabwe. Well let me assure that prophecy will manifest if we do not change and practice mature politics. No need not join the ANC to achieve political mellowness but we can endeavor to criticize for purposes of improving matters without the undertone of hatred and insult.
“To Mother Africa , so long in fetters,
To all who love her and strive to set her free,
And to two noble women of Africa: Mtonya my
late mother, and Nokukhanya, my wife,To whom, under God I am most deeply indebted.”
—— Chief Albert John Mvumbi Luthuli
People around Amanzimtoti have become accustomed to Joseph Babbie Sun Conure, affectionately called as Babbie. This pet parrot has graced the pages of theSouthCoastSun newspaper as a community promoter of the 2010 World Cup.
He has built up a vocabulary of ten words and joins in at the exact moment when I attempt to sing the song “Oh my Papa”, albeit that he only accompanies me with the “Papa” in the chorus.
Nearing on four years, he has been an absolute pleasure to our lives at home. He has a sponge-padded hammock that only may be cleaned under his supervision. When Maureen and I enjoy a midnight snack, we would hear Babbie leave his bed (hammock) to collect his own snack for consumption in his hammock. Our pet accompanies us on short excursions to Tala Game Reserve. At Tala, our bird is, by special arrangement, permitted by, and well known by name to the local management and staff.
Early in our feathered son’s life we consulted various experts parrot breeders who confirmed his gender as being male based on certain behaviour patterns Babbie has adopted.
Maureen and I were at ease with the responsibility of being parents to an avian boy. Although his interaction with us was limited to ten words, he understands many more. He would even create different meanings to his words if expressed in a different way. An example would that he would use my name while staring at Maureen to say “Frank-Frank” repeatedly in an assertive manner. This would be in response to me requesting coffee.
After returning from a Friday night from wedding celebration with the romance of the occasion fresh in mind, we discovered that our son has laid an egg. We had mixed emotions of surprise and short-lived disappointment.
When you love a pet, in the way as you should every attribute including identity does become an emotive feature of your relationship.
Over the last two days, we have adapted well to the identity crises. Although having to correct the occasional “he” with a “she” and a “his” with a “her” we have accepted the fact of our son coming out of the hammock to lay an egg and reveal his gender.
In every situation, one must look for the good. In my case, I must admit that I feel a lot better about Josephine as to Joseph nibbling on my ear and kissing me in the neck.
I am sure everyone can learn a human lesson from this.
Welcome to a new chapter in your life Dear Josephine.

Wishing the Arch (Mr Integrity) very happy 80th birthday. Mr President regard yourself as crapped out by Tat’. Very few places in the world where you can go on national TV and reprimand the head of state. Proud of our Democracy.

Let us all take a leaf out of the life book of Steve Jobs the founder of APPLE. His life is accurately describe by President Obama “…brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it….” ironically a man with the last name “JOBS” created career opportunities for so many.
On the 8th December 2006 a record of certificate was issued by the Amanzimtoti Publicity Association (APA) announcing the coastal name for our region as The Aliwal Coast. This represents the coastline from the Mahlongwa River just north of Scottburgh to the Mlazi canal north of the old Durban International Airport…
This was done after more than a year of deliberation with the public via the community press, emails and other written suggestions. A webpage for input was created and well publicised for public input. (more…)

From inside information we were informed that one of these persons in the picture will soon be providing an excellent service to the Toti public from one of the Seadoone Mall shops in the west wing. Unfortunately at the time of going to cyberspace no further detail was available. If anyone can let any further light on the matter please click on the title and use the “post window” to pass on any new information.
The information regarding the place where King Shaka enjoyed water at the local river is primarily sourced from council officials and a few wildlife and environmental activists and very little, if any, formal research to substantiate the claims. To use an example forthcoming from isiZulu speakers at a tourism seminar held in Amanzimtoti in the late nineties…
